Tata Motors has strengthened its presence in the small commercial vehicle (SCV) segment with the launch of the new Intra V40 Bi-Fuel pickup, targeting the growing demand for cost-efficient and flexible transportation solutions in last-mile cargo operations.
The introduction of the new pickup comes as fleet operators and small business owners increasingly explore alternate fuel vehicles to reduce operating expenses while improving vehicle utilisation in highly competitive logistics and distribution environments.
Designed for urban and semi-urban cargo applications, the Tata Intra V40 Bi-Fuel offers a payload capacity of 1,525 kg and features a 2,960 mm (9.7 ft) load body. The vehicle has been engineered to support high-load and high-frequency transportation requirements across multiple industry segments.
At the heart of the pickup is a 1.2-litre engine delivering 58 bhp of power and 106 Nm of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a 110-litre CNG tank and a bi-fuel powertrain that enables operation on both CNG and petrol, providing greater flexibility in areas where fuel availability may vary.
The launch reflects the broader shift taking place within the commercial vehicle industry as operators increasingly prioritise fuel economy, lower total cost of ownership and operational versatility.
Speaking on the occasion, Pinaki Haldar, Vice President and Business Head – SCVPU, Tata Motors Ltd., said the adoption of alternate fuel solutions in last-mile transportation is gaining momentum across the market.
“The shift towards alternate fuels in last-mile cargo transport is accelerating, driven by the need for lower operating costs and greater flexibility. Tata Motors is at the forefront of this transition, with a clear focus on building the strongest and most comprehensive alternate fuel portfolio in the SCV and pickup segment,” he said.
According to Tata Motors, the launch further reinforces the company’s alternate fuel mobility strategy, which includes bi-fuel, CNG and electric commercial vehicles across multiple cargo and payload categories.
The Intra V40 joins an expanding portfolio of alternate fuel products that includes the Ace Pro Bi-Fuel, Ace CNG 2.0 and Intra V20 Gold. In the electric commercial vehicle segment, the company continues to broaden its offerings with models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000 and Intra EV Pickup.
Built on Tata Motors’ proven Intra platform, the new pickup incorporates features aimed at improving driver comfort, vehicle durability and operational performance. These include a walk-through cabin, front disc brakes and a hydroformed chassis designed to enhance structural strength and reliability.
The vehicle is also backed by Tata Motors’ Sampoorna Seva 2.0 ownership programme and the Fleet Edge connected vehicle platform, enabling customers to access telematics, predictive maintenance support and real-time vehicle monitoring capabilities.
With the addition of the Intra V40 Bi-Fuel, Tata Motors continues to expand its alternate fuel commercial vehicle portfolio, supporting the evolving requirements of fleet operators seeking efficient, economical and sustainable solutions for last-mile cargo transportation.
