In a recent high-profile move, Andrew Palmer, popularly known as Andy Palmer, the automotive veteran, has stepped down as vice chairman and CEO of Ashok Leyland-owned Switch Mobility, an electric vehicle company. 3rd November 2022 was his last day in the office. The very same day he also relinquished his board membership of Ashok Leyland as a non-executive member.
Palmer is a global automotive veteran with over 40 years of experience. He took the charge as non-executive chairman of the British bus maker Optare in July 2020 when the world was undergoing COVID -19 crisis and the global automotive sector suffered a huge blow. Optare is a fully owned unit of the Indian commercial vehicle OEM Ashok Leyland.
Switch Mobility, which is an electric vehicle manufacturing company, was formed in the year 2021 after Optare and Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle projects were merged the same year. The company has its base in India besides Spain.
Palmer enjoys a huge fandom from the automotive fraternity globally. In the past, he has served noted brands like Nissan and Aston Martin as its CEO. It was during his stint at Nissan, the Japanese automotive major, that its electric vehicle Leaf got launched.
