Daimler Truck has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing one million connected trucks and buses on a global digital platform. This achievement underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to vehicle connectivity, which serves as the cornerstone for digital solutions aimed at enhancing fleet uptime, safety, productivity, and facilitating the transition to sustainable transportation.
Marcus Claesson, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Daimler Truck, emphasized the pivotal role of connectivity solutions in driving innovation and differentiation to win over customers. He stated, “With more than 1 million connected vehicles, we have established a robust foundation for further development and scaling of services and solutions that enhance customer value and brand loyalty, while also optimizing our own value chain.”
Over the past few years, Daimler Truck has meticulously rolled out embedded telematics hardware and a global digital platform across all vehicle brands. This integrated connectivity platform spans across major vehicle models and segments, facilitating the deployment of digital products worldwide. These digital solutions, accessible through various platforms such as Mercedes-Benz Trucks Uptime, Fleetboard, OmniPlus, Truckconnect, and Detroit Connect, offer a suite of applications tailored to meet diverse customer needs across different regions.
Among the notable digital products are remote update functionalities, which minimize the necessity for workshop visits by diagnosing and updating vehicles while they are operational, thereby saving customers time and money while ensuring vehicles remain on the road. For instance, Mercedes-Benz Trucks Uptime customers in Europe have witnessed a reduction of more than half in unplanned workshop visits due to early fault detection. Similarly, Daimler Truck North America executed over 500,000 remote updates last year alone, significantly reducing the need for customers to visit workshops.
Daimler Truck’s integrated connectivity platform not only enables seamless access to real-time data and insights but also facilitates connectivity with the logistics ecosystem without the need for additional hardware. Moreover, the company collaborates with third-party partners via its global connectivity platform to offer a wide range of logistic solutions to customers.
In addition to enhancing operational efficiency, Daimler Truck’s digital products also play a crucial role in the transition to zero-emission vehicles. The company offers eServices for battery-powered trucks, including range prediction, battery status monitoring, pre-conditioning, and efficient charging management. Looking ahead, connectivity will continue to play a pivotal role in enabling autonomous driving, with solutions for remote support and systematic monitoring of autonomous trucks on the road.
Sanjiv Khurana, Head of the Connectivity Services Group at Daimler Truck, expressed pride in achieving this milestone and reiterated the company’s commitment to investing in connectivity platforms and digital solutions to drive customer-centric innovation. With a dedicated team across regional development centers working with an agile mindset, Daimler Truck is poised to bring forth more innovation while aiming to connect the next million vehicles in the future.
