AC135 System Steals the Spotlight

At Prawaas 4.0, held last month in Bangalore, Eberspaecher highlighted its cutting-edge thermal management solutions for buses across all drive types, including electric models. The company’s featured product at booth 65 to 74 in hall 4 was the AC135 roof-mounted air conditioning system, which catered to the rapidly growing e-bus market in India.

India’s E-Bus Market on the Rise

With government-led initiatives accelerating the electrification of public transport in major cities, India’s e-bus market had experienced significant growth. Eberspaecher, well-prepared for this shift, presented solutions tailored to both traditional and electric buses.

AC135: A Versatile and Cost-Efficient Platform

The AC135 air conditioning system stood out as a versatile, cost-effective solution for buses across different performance classes, including electric drives. During the event, Eberspaecher introduced two new heat pump models to the AC135 family. These models featured compact dimensions—2.95 meters in length and 29.5 cm in height—along with an enhanced refrigerant reverse cycle, making them more reliable and efficient.

The system’s lightweight design, with the lightest version weighing just 202 kg, added to its appeal. Offering cooling capacities of 30 to 38 kW and heating from 22 to 26 kW, depending on the model, the AC135 proved to be a robust option for various climates. Production of the heat pump models was announced to begin mid-2025 at Eberspaecher’s Bangalore plant. As one of the event sponsors, Eberspaecher emphasized its strong commitment to the Indian market.

Boosting Efficiency with Integrated Battery Cooling

The all-electric AC135 versions, with or without a heat pump, were showcased with an optional integrated module for battery cooling. This feature allowed bus batteries to maintain a consistent temperature, increasing efficiency and extending battery life.

By incorporating the battery module directly into the air conditioning system, manufacturers could save valuable space on the bus roof and reduce overall vehicle weight. Additionally, the electric thermal management system came equipped with an integrated compressor and inverter. All AC135 versions shared the same roof footprint, allowing manufacturers to seamlessly install the system in electric buses without altering the design.

A Lightweight Solution for All Drive Types

Overall, the AC135 platform impressed with its lightweight construction, which lowered consumption rates and reduced installation times. Its compact design, with the smallest version measuring just 1.91 meters in length, offered a space-saving solution for bus manufacturers. The system’s one-piece parallel high design, combined with side or center return air grilles, provided easy access for servicing.

Eberspaecher’s thermal management solutions offered compatibility with brushed or brushless motors and supported various control systems, including the company’s own E-Control, making it an adaptable and future-ready option for India’s evolving transportation landscape.
