SSAB has inaugurated a state-of-the-art steel service center in Mumbai, aimed at strengthening support for India’s growing manufacturing ecosystem. The new facility will focus on producing ready-to-assemble components and kits using advanced steel solutions for key industries.
Focus on High-Performance Steel Solutions
The Mumbai service center is dedicated to processing and supplying components made from SSAB’s globally recognized steel grades:
- Hardox® Wear Plate: Known for its exceptional abrasion resistance, this steel enhances durability and extends the service life of heavy-duty equipment such as tippers and rock bodies.
- Strenx® Performance Steel: A high-strength structural steel designed to create lighter yet stronger equipment, commonly used in trailers, cranes, and lifting booms.
By combining these materials with local processing capabilities, SSAB aims to help manufacturers reduce production timelines, improve efficiency, and deliver superior product performance.
Enabling Faster and Efficient Manufacturing
The facility is designed to deliver precision-processed components and ready-to-assemble kits, allowing equipment manufacturers and body builders to streamline their operations. Applications supported by the center include:
- Tipper bodies and rock bodies
- Tipping trailers
- Lifting equipment booms
Additionally, the center offers specialised bending capabilities for high-strength steel plates, a critical requirement for modern lightweight and high-performance equipment designs.
Strategic Infrastructure and Capacity
Located within a key industrial hub with access to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, the service center spans approximately 100,000 square feet. It features a centralized warehouse with a storage capacity of over 10,000 tonnes of steel plates, ensuring efficient inventory management and timely deliveries.
