LONDON: XPO, a pioneering provider of comprehensive and eco-conscious logistics solutions across Europe, has made significant strides by integrating hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and electric-powered vehicles into its 4PL and transport control tower operations. This groundbreaking move marks a notable achievement in sustainability within the industry. Initial trials of HVO and electric-powered vehicles were conducted along test routes spanning nearly 3,000 miles in the UK and Ireland, resulting in a reduction of over 4,000 kg CO2e emissions. The extension of emission-reduction solutions in managed transport perfectly aligns with XPO’s overarching decarbonization strategy, which includes a concerted effort to increase the utilization of alternative fuels. Concurrently, the emergence of newer low- and zero-emission vehicles is reshaping the market landscape. Paul Hayes, XPO’s Director of Asset Light Solutions, emphasized, “Sustainability stands as a pivotal strategic focus for all our clients, and collaboratively, we are exploring avenues to expedite the decarbonization of the supply chain. The innovative integration and operationalization of alternative fuel technologies within our 4PL operation represent a significant stride forward for our clients on their sustainability journey.” Dan Myers, Managing Director – UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The expansion of alternative fuels is profoundly gratifying as we continue to lead the charge in sustainability.”
